    My external hard drive won’t appear on series x


    So my hard drive won’t appear on my series X, it doesn’t list anything other than internal storage. I connected the hard drive to my PC and it appeared and I reformatted it to NTFS but when I plugged it back into my Xbox, nothing happened.

    Hope you are well. I'll be glad to assist you.

    I'm sorry you're experiencing these issues.

    Please try power cycling your console, this often helps it recognize external hard drives without issues.

    Please try the following steps:

    1. Disconnect your external drive from the console

    2. Press and hold the Power button on the front of your Xbox until the console turns off.

    3. Unplug the power cord from the back of your Xbox.

    4. Wait a minute, and then plug the power cord back in.

    5. Press the Power button on your Xbox to turn it back on.

    6. Reconnect the external drive and check if it is recognized.

    Xbox Series X eternal hard drive

    Hi,

    If your game is now a Series X optimised title, it can no longer be played off an external hard drive. It must be moved to either the internal storage or an optional expansion card.

    External USB hard drives are too slow to play Series X optimised games. None Series X games will still run from your external drive. The internal storage in the Series X is a fast NVME SSD. These drives are several times faster than mechanical hard drives.
