My dad created a microsoft family, then died. Causing issues with playing games.

So, about 6 years ago I was 7-8 years old and my dad decided to set up a Microsoft family. He added me and my sister, and added parental controls for me being 8 and under. Now, this didn't effect me at all as I did not have a computer until the last year. I created my windows profile using my Microsoft account, and now there are a LOT of issues. I cannot download anything from the app store that is ages 8 and over, specifically minecraft launcher. I also switched my minecraft account to microsoft, and now I cannot play online as I am "not old enough". I talked to microsoft support and they seem pretty useless, can't access the account or anything. Any ideas on what I can do?

    :)

You'll need to go back to Microsoft support and explain the situation (even if you need to escalate to a manager) They may have steps to allow a family member of the group to become the new group owner in order to make changes or... assist in disbanding the family group so you can modify your account details. I can't speak on their policies as accounts are quite locked down for security purposes and non-transferable to new email addresses so... Your best option will be explaining the complicated situation and see what they come up with or create a new account if they can't assist and start fresh. On that note, my condolences for your loss.

Can a child (Under 18) change their Date of Birth on an account controlled by an adult in a Family thing? SUrely that would defeat the purpose of having child accounts if they could just go in and change the DOB at will

Hello, My name is Jesse. I'm an Independent Advisor and a member of the Microsoft community and I'd love to assist you today.

    Try this;

    Go to - https://account.microsoft.com/profile/

Clicked on "Edit Day of Birth"

Fill out the info (even if current DOB on account is correct) & submit

Open up Game Pass app on PC, log out of account

    Sign back into account

only family organiser cant remove child account?

Hi, thank you for your response,

I understand I won't be able to leave the family as I have a child account, and I'm not over 18, but I still don't understand why my dad can't remove me from the family, I've been looking for a while and there are a few people having the same issue, the error message "Only a family organiser can remove someone from the family", but my dad IS the only family organiser.

the issue I was having in games was "You cant play with content created by others", which has limited me from quite a few features, so I tried to change this through Xbox but I couldn't because I was part of a family.

So my dad tried to fix this by changing my content restriction age to 18, which didn't work, and we ended up resorting to trying to remove me from the family group, which also seems to not be working.

I looked around some more and a fix to any one of these issues would help massively,

I also think it would help if I mentioned that my account age is 13, but if there is a way we can change that app either through Microsoft Family or my account settings that would help as well.

Change Email Associated with Xbox Gamertag

That removes the association of that email address with that gamertag.

I'm curious as to if your Dad's email is a Microsoft one, as it sounds like it is, and also when this account was created, was it created using your Dad's Microsoft account? if this is the case, it could cause issues with changing the associated email, but
    I'm not 100% sure.

Just trying to give you some information as to avoid any complications down the road, hopefully I was some what helpful.
