Unfortunately with many digital codes, including the subscription codes, the item has to be purchased from the same region (country) as the account that the code is being applied to. You farther can see about requesting a refund for the code if it was a

Hi i bought xbox live gold membership prepaid card and i stuck in the 25 digit code off the back and it told me the code is invalid but i just bought it today and it's for 12 months, i got the card from cvs store

There isnt a way that wouldn't end up breaking the rules. Your dad will need to get a refund for the card from wherever he bought it and would need to get a code meant specifically for your region.

I bought an xbox 12 month gold live card from them as a gift for my kid. When we tried to redeem the code it said it was already redeemed. It took me a couple of months to get them to refund me. I will not purchase from them again.

Now i got the same problem with a prepaid 3 month xbox live code... which i bought from a shop in romania, it was a prepaid code which includes a weapon skin for the division, and the code for the skin worked but the other one for xbox live didn't.....
