my child is 10 and it will not let him play on multi player or realms

If it is a child account will it not let you play a realm?

Yes it is possible. As im playing on 2 realms in my country.

One of the realms we play on, the owner didnt feel like playing Minecraft anymore so one of the other players said he will take it over from him. So it is possible.

Is there local multi player (split screen) or XBL only? Wanted to play with one of my kids but not sure about turning him loose online.

Why would you have to pay another $10 to play the multi-player? The game contains the single-player and the multi-player as is. You don't have to pay extra for it.
