You were able to get into the account enough to change the password?

At what point is it asking for the phone number? When you try and put your account on your console its wanting to send a code to your phone number? If this is the case you would still be able to change the phone number for security codes on the account as
long as you know the email and current password on the account. It will lock you out of the account for 30 days till that phone number is updated though.

If you sign into the account at account.live.com/addassocid it will want to send a security code but if you click on that you do not have any of these it will take you to a screen to update where security codes are sent out to and allow you to update it
again it will lock you out of your account for 30 days till where they send the security codes out to is updated. THERE is NO way around the 30 day lock out.

I've talked to phone support many times. They don't give me that option. They just tell me they will send a security code to my email address on the account & I have to tell them what that code is. Even though I can't because I don't know the email address
to check & I tell them probably about 50 times from the beginning to the end of the conversation. They say it's the only way to recover my account, they don't give me the option to answer account specific security questions. Thanks for the help though.

If you know the email and password for the account you can trick the system into allowing you to change that security proof phone number. Now it will lock you out of your account for 30 days in doing this and the person that has the account very well could
go in and cancel the request by accepting a code to the security proof that he has changed it to.

To do this you would sign into your account at account.live.com/addassocid it will ask to send a security code to the security proof it will also give you a choice that you dont have any of these and will allow you to update the security proof (where the
verification code is being sent to).

Once the security proof is updated you would be able to sign in and it would send a security code to the new security proof that you added.

Again this will lock you out of your account for 30 days.
