My 360 sat for over a year unplugged. Now It shows that the internal 4 gig does not work.

Fyi fat xbox hdds sat on top of original xbox 360 they ranged from 20-250 gig they cannot be used on s units without removing the drive

Xbox 360 S had a 4 gig internal memory on non hdd Consoles with the option of adding 250gig or 320gig

Anything else on a s unit is a modification till we see bigger drives

With technology hdds capacity goes larger as gaming needs expand not smaller

The only inbetweeen is usb drives at 16 gig max each but they lack the emulation software

correction, you need the HD for some features of SOME games, and the playing of old gen xbox games. you can play the 360 just fine without the HD inside of it (even games online). I have been using NOTHING but the 4 gig of internal memory of my 360 slim
since I got it this fall and still have over 3 gig free.

well which 360 do you have a 4 gig or one with a 250 or 320 (most were 250 a 320 was available later on). if you have a 4 gig model then you will need a hard drive as the 4 gig is just the equivalent of an internal flash drive not a hard drive.

4 gig models do not have hard drives they have an internal equivalent of a USB flash drive. if your system does not see the 4 gig internal drive you best exchange it if you are within your return window which is usually 90 days depending on the store.

there is also another other to get a free xbox 360 4 gig with any laptop at dell that is over 600 dollars. but you need to be enrolled at a 2 or 4 year college.
