Multiple Game installs between Internal and External

Games update on the drive they're installed on. You'll have the option to move games between the internal HDD and external HDDs. By default, moving a game moves all of its associated files.

Hello [EX], sorry to hear you're having trouble.

The system asks this in case you're planning to moving the drive back and forth between consoles so it makes it easier for you to do so. As for the installing issue, games that are for Series X/S can only be played on the internal drive of the console and not an external drive so this would be why it's denying you the ability to install to the external.

But if you'd like to try you can install the games to your internal drive then just Move them back and forth from internal to external as you'd like to play them.

You currently have to choose where to install the game, by default the system will try to install the game on your internal hard drive. if you want to change the location you have to manually select to install to your external drive, it will then always
install your game on the external, and you can choose to move the file later.

Go to Settings > System > Storage and you should be able to choose your external as your default installation location. There isn't a way currently to choose between the two when first installing a game, it just uses your selected method so make sure you
have the internal or external chosen before starting a digital download, or before installing a disc.

If you do so after, just select move. The files will always take some time to transfer and will be dependent on the external drive as well as internal, the internal can only read at specific speeds, and your external will only write at certain speeds. There
isn't much that can be done with write speeds.

just to be sure, are the games installed on the internal storage device or an external storage device?

If they are installed on an external storage device, please try and see what happens if the game is installed on the internal storage device and the external storage device is disconnected.

are the games installed on an external drive or the internal one, if on an external then move to internal and try again, if on internal then move to external and try again, to see if its a drive issue, if thats possible that is.
