MU7000 and Xbox One X - black color crush problems

•STANDARD makes use of the entire grayscale.

•INTERMEDIATE uses only a part of it, crushing the white end of the spectrum.

•EXPANDED crushes black.

Crushing one end of the grayscale will highlight the other end. So you'll notice shades of black and vibrant color in Intermediate. Shades of white are more prominent in Expanded Mode where scenes appear brighter and less saturated. (With white levels and
crushed blacks Expanded seems like a massive leap in contrast.)

looks to have fixed the stuttering, but hasnt fixed the "black crush" (the darkening of the picture) issue, i truly hope the hdmi color space/black crush issue is something that is known about and will be looked at

High Dynamic Range (HDR) is essentially a more true and corrected level of Colors and the Black Value. Remember the the "black crush" argument seen on the Xbox 360 and early trailers of even BF4 on the Xbox One? That is in part due
to not having a large enough range for accurate colors in a given black value.

In short, HDR will produce a cleaner and more accurate colored picture without sacrificing black values.

I get what you are saying. I was talking about one's visual impression of these options as seen on a TV using an HDMI connection where it is expecting a digital color space, YCbCr, within a limited range (16 - 235).

It's like having a black versus a white *gasp* iPhone or iPad. A black frame--crushed blacks in this case--emphasizes the lighter end of the spectrum. Whereas a white frame makes the darker end more noticeable. So on the one hand, high contrast and
less saturated colors are prominent, but vibrant color and shades of black are more noticeable on the other.

With a clear frame neither black nor white are overpowering, and effect can seem underwhelming on all but professionally calibrated TVs. This of course would be the Standard setting.

I think problems arise when a TV is expecting one range but getting another and hence must resort to clipping or filling in the blanks--this mind you to a video stream that may already have crushed blacks or whites.
