MSFS mandatory update

My son has just upgraded MSFS to Premium Deluxe on his PC. He is now being asked to install a mandatory update that is 700GB. He can no longer play it as he is being told he must install the update. This seems very unusual. How do we skip this so he can play?

I don't see any way a game that is about 100GB game needs 700 in updated. It frequently reports far more than it means.

Does your son have extensive amounts of terrain downloaded?

If the update is mandatory, as you say it is, then you have to update the game before it can be played again.

For such issues, I would suggest the following solutions. Give it a try and let us know the results!

Delete the Windows Store cache:

Press Windows key or open Windows Start, then type wsreset in the search bar
Right-click on wsreset.exe and select Run as Administrator
This will clean the Windows Store cache. Make sure you don’t press anything while the command prompt is working.
Windows Store will open when it’s been reset and you should restart your PC.

To reset it:

1. Open the settings by pressing the Windows + i keys
2. Go to Apps> Applications and features.
3. Select the Microsoft Store application and then click Advanced Options.
4. Click the Reset button.
5. Confirm the reset by clicking on Reset again.

Reinstall Microsoft Store:

1.Open Windows PowerShell as administrator. To do this, right click on the start button and click on 'Windows Shell (admin)'
2. To reinstall the Microsoft Store app, enter the following command (you can copy and paste:
Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.WindowsStore | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register '$ ($ _. InstallLocation) \\ AppXManifest.xml'}

To solve this please try the official solution provided by the game developers. For this follow the instructions below.

Install the 'Xbox' app from the Windows Store and launch it. Then go back to 'Downloads and Updates' in MS Store and 'Get Updates' and the MSFS update may appear.

I can also confirm this worked for me on PC. I downloaded the XBOX app via the store.

Then, in store, clicked the three dots.

Then "downloads and updates" and sure enough there was an update for MSFS 2020 1.19.9.0. This was 507.0MB.

I then started MSFS 2020 which went to its own install manager and showed me the "Standard Content" mandatory update which was 108.12MB. The total download, however, was 3.19GB.

I then downloaded all available updates in content manager.

Once all this was complete I quit to desktop and restarted MSFS 2020 without issue.

I think it's VERY strange to need to install the XBOX app for any updates to show in the PC's Microsoft store!!
