There is OBVIOUSLY autopilot issues! I’ve seen them on live streams, and I’ve personally experienced them. And they are sporadic. Flew one flight where they worked perfectly. Flew the SAME flight later, and no matter what I did, NAV mode wouldn’t follow
the course. Every time I engaged NAV mode, it wanted to go in a northern direction. Same flight, same flight plan, different results.

The people saying there are no issues are (something I’ll get banned for if I say...)

I have the same problems, It did work once on the 172 G1000 for about 100 miles. It is as you claimed "maddening". I try resetting it by powering A/P off and on. The heading will not hold, NAV will not hold, it won't even hold the wings level. After
reading other posts where they seem to have no problem and tell me I don't know how to work it (I have been simming for over 20 years, think I have figured out the autopilot systems by now) I figured it most be a bug and did a clean reinstall. No joy. Is
this something simple that is new to MSFS, is there a step I am missing?

UPDATE: The controller now doesn't function while plugged in no lights nor does it work wirelesly still has no functionality or signs of any power.

Sorry to hear it. Please make sure there are no pending updates for your PC. Even the smallest update can cause issues with games and apps. I would also like to suggest checking to make sure your Drivers (graphics, hardware, etc) have no pending updates.

I also am experiencing problems with a TM T-Flight HOTAS. Issues generally relate to crossover between throttle and rudder inputs; where Z- input induces a right rudder action and Z+ sends you off to the left - and standard rudder inputs are unable to correct. I have run simple take-off & landing practice drills in an effort to pinpoint the problem, but the actual failures vary somewhat. On the dead-stick landing practice which by definition sets the throttle at neutral, failures still occur with only slight inputs to the X-Y axis. Re-sets, calibration, nothing seems to help.
