MSFS 2020 not downloading properly

Hi.

I hope this is relevant for Microsoft, considering it’s one of their products, but I’ve been having an issue with Microsoft Flight Simulator that I bought off of Steam (specifically the 2020 version).

When I started doing the mandatory ‘standard content’ update, it would crash my whole computer once it got to about 25%.

However, I eventually did find the issue to this. I just needed to increase the paging file, and it finally started updating past 25%.

However, I’ve now encountered another issue, and I tried contacting Steam about it, to see if the issue was on their end, but they said it would be best to contact Microsoft.

Anyway, so now when I update MSFS, it always gets stuck decompressing a file. Yes, I’ve waited to see if that was the issue, but I’ve let in run overnight before, and it still is stuck decompressing a certain file.

The percentage and the gigabytes show that they’re all completed, but it’s just the fraction part that’ll say something like “0/509” or whatever.

So, eventually, I went online and troubleshooted every possible way I can, including checking file integrity, checking internet connection, reinstalling, etc..

Whenever I reset the update, it would just get stuck on yet another file decompression.

However, the last time it tried to do this, it looks like it completed the whole update, except for one file, in particular (the file is called “microsoft-aircraft-hughes-h4-hercules-1.2.5.fspatch” if that has any relevance), which has been trying to decompress for hours on end.

I tried to exiting and opening again, to no avail, to which I tried uninstalling the whole game from Steam and then reinstalling it, only to be brought back to that ‘1/1’ decompressing the same file. I don’t know why it brought me back there even though I uninstalled the game from Steam, maybe I had to delete its files off my computer.

Anyway, can anyone help me try to figure out how to decompress this one, hopefully last, file?

I can also confirm this worked for me on PC. I downloaded the XBOX app via the store.

Then, in store, clicked the three dots.

Then "downloads and updates" and sure enough there was an update for MSFS 2020 1.19.9.0. This was 507.0MB.

I then started MSFS 2020 which went to its own install manager and showed me the "Standard Content" mandatory update which was 108.12MB. The total download, however, was 3.19GB.

I then downloaded all available updates in content manager.

Once all this was complete I quit to desktop and restarted MSFS 2020 without issue.

I think it's VERY strange to need to install the XBOX app for any updates to show in the PC's Microsoft store!!

On October 30, 2021, I tried downloading again, and it worked. After the download, I was able to launch MSFS 2020, reinstall all the updates, and fly.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply.

In the meantime, I was able to resolve the problems by myself. I found two root causes, both on my side:
1. Teredo Server connection was instable -> repaired

2. Add-ons:
As a very big freak of MSFS (using it since 1995), I downloaded about 1'400 add-ons from various sources for MSFS 2020 so far. To select the third-party cities, airfields/airports in the area I want to fly in, I use an add-on management tool, this prior to launching MSFS. This to avoid very long loading time. This procedure shows high effectiveness and efficiency.

Now, it came to my mind to try the same with add-ons downloaded from MarketPlace inside the game and moved respective folders/files from it's C:\Users\...\LocalCache\Packages\Official\OneStore folder to another place on D:\

When starting MSFS 2020 for the first time after this it worked properly, showing respective add-ons in ContentManager as not-installed via MSFS but installed via add-on management tool.

But trying to launch MSFS 2020 for the next time, the failure as described in my first post occured.

Since moving all these folders back to it's official place ...\OneStore, the MSFS 2020 is running again great as expected and always experienced!!!

Therefore, there is no need to loose more time on my above described problems, they are resolved.

But please let me ask this additional question:

Is it possible to easily activate or deactivate add-ons downloaded and installed from MarketPlace depending on where you want to fly, this prior to launch the sim?
And if yes, how to do this?
