Moving/Recovering Gamertag from old Xbox to New Xbox one.

When you get the new one you can recover your gamertag to it and redownload any DLC you had. If you want to keep your gamesaves from the old xbox, you can use the transfer cable to move all of your data from the old hard drive to the new one.

When you get a new xbox and want to use old accounts, you will have to put the microsoft emails and passwords associated with those accounts into the new xbox. Once you log into those accounts, all your saved game data and things from the old account should
download to the new xbox!

This is why it tells you that the gamertags are already in use. It confused me the first time I swapped over too!

When you go to add an account, go to sign in to an existing account instead of making a new account. You will need your email and password for the accounts on your wife's xbox. Hopefully you remember those! After you have logged in, everything should appear
as it was on the old xbox except, you'll have a lot of things to download!

...When I try to add my gamertag it wont let me as it said that is already in use. I just used it two days ago on the old xbox. Also a game I downloaded last year wants proof I own it???...

It seems you are trying to create a new account instead of just downloading your existing account.

Your account that you used on your wife's console is synchronized with the Xbox Live Online service. So you can simply download your existing account to your new console instead of creating a new account.

If you forgot your Microsoft Account email, go to your wife's console and sign in with your own account. Then press the Guide button, go to the settings and under "Sign in, Security and Passkey" you should find your account's email under "Show on Home".

Take a note of that Microsoft Account email and go to your own console.

Then follow
the instructions here to add your existing accountto your new console.

On my new xbox I've redeemed my old account but I've changed the gamertag, I'm wanting to transfer games ext from my old xbox to the new one but the data is owned by my old gamertag can I still transfer from the old gamertag to my new one ??
