Movies and TV does not allow to choose anything except Dolby Digital, AC3

It's possible there is some issue with the connection through the receiver causing it to not play Dolby Atmos by bitstream.

Go ahead and do a
hard reset and power cycle. Hold down the power button on the console for about 10 seconds until it shuts down and then remove the power cable from the Xbox and the power outlet for about 2-3 minutes.

At this point reconnect the Xbox to the receiver. Once you reconnect, turn on the Xbox and see what you hear.

Looks like app "Movie and TV" doe not support DTS and Atmos.

In games it works.

Sad that not a cheap box cant do this and now I have to buy media player.

What a disappointment.

I'm still waiting for Microsoft to fix the problem as well.

Putting it very simply for them to understand. Netflix was working brilliantly until the November update and now it's rubbish. To expand on this.

1. Before the November update. I had the audio option set to bitstream and ticked the audio passthrough checkbox.

The sound is passing into my TV and I have an optical output to a DSP-A5 amplifier. With the xbox being used for games the amp displays ProLogic for normal stereo output.

The Netflix app can be started and when you list the sound options for films you are given English and English 5.1.

When you choose English, the sound is stereo and the amplifier displays ProLogic.

When you choose English 5.1, it's surround sound and the amplifier displays Dolby Digital.

The movies and tv app works really good with this as well.

2. Microsoft released the update to 'improve the users experience'.

The bitstream option has disappeared from the audio options. I can see Stereo Uncompressed, Dolby Digital and DTS Surround.

Now, when I choose each of these options the amplifier picks this up and displays accordingly ProLogic, Dolby Digital and DTS Surround Sound.

This is where it all goes wrong.

Leaving the sound as Stereo on the xbox. I start Netflix and when I choose a movie the only option is English. English 5.1 is no longer available.

When the sound is set to Dolby Digital on the xbox. I start Netflix and the movies now give me English and English 5.1. But... the amplifies remains on Dolby Digital irrespective of choosing English or English 5.1.

When the sound is now set to DTS on the xbox. I start Netflix and the movies gives me the same English and English 5.1 choices. but.. the amplifier displays DTS Surround Sound irrespective of choosing English or English 5.1. The English 5.1 is being converted from Dolby Digital to DTS by the xbox!

3. the ONLY device which has changed is the xbox with the software update.

The TV is an older LG 55EC930V which has always been up to date on the firmware. The amplifier has no firmware to update.

Ticking and unticking the audio passthrough does bugger all.

I did everything as you said.

1) It is a 4k (mkv, m2ts) movie (i've tried many of them) with a several audio tracks. So Dolby Digital tracks (with ac3 codec) always work great, DTS dosen't... (video is playing, but without sound). I use Movies & TV app for xbox or multimedia
player.

2) Problem does not occur in games or streaming services

3) Ok. I set my HDMI autio to stereo uncompressed, optical audio selected bitstream, bitsream format DTS or DD. And it makes no difference(((

May be i should set my soundbar to TV, not to Xbox?

One question, why have hdmi from receiver to tv AND an optical to tv as well? Hdmi should carry the audio, so not sure why you would use optical to tv as well.

If your watching blu ray movies I would stick to uncompressed. Blu ray movies almost always have a lossless track (Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD master audio) which is a clear step up from normal Dolby digital or DTS. Uncompressed should pass the lossless tracks,
where Dolby digital or DTS will not. Don't worry about the Dolby or DTS light on your receiver. Only reason that they may sounds better is IF you are usb a surround processing mode that only works on a bitstream signal.
