Mouse stops working when opening some programs

Today I purchased a Microsoft XBOX controller to use with my PC. I connected it to my computer using Bluetooth and tested it with a game, and everything seemed to work fine. However, when I was done, I noticed that my mouse would not work. I tried unplugging the mouse, and plugging it back it, but it still would not work.

I restarted my computer, and after rebooting, now the mouse appeared to work. However, upon opening an app, the mouse suddenly stopped working again with the same symptoms. After some more testing and restarting It seems like when I open some programs, the OS ignores the mouse. If I can ALT+F4 out of the program, the mouse starts working again as soon as the program exits. It appears to affect 100% of games, and some other non-games. Luckily this doesn't happen with browsers.

My guess is that connecting the Microsoft brand controller switched on some setting that prefers controller input to mouse input, even if no controller is connected, or the program doesn't even support controllers. How can I get access to my mouse back when playing games? I've removed the controller from my computer. Is there anything else I can do?

I found this strange, usually an Xbox controller doesn't cause these problems
But let's try to isolate the problem a bit more for this try the next solutions and let me know how it goes with each one:

A. Reinstall your controller driver:
Press Windows key + X and select Device Manager > search something like Xbox controller category (or similar) > expand the category using the little arrow (">") > select delete/uninstall driver

Click OK, restart your PC and reconnect the controller.

B. Update the Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator driver.

You can do it following previous steps, but now select Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator.

Can take a while, would be great to wait up to 15 minutes before trying again

C. Open task manager > select the startup tab > disable all the programs listed there temporarily
Restart the PC and try again

D. Do a clean boot in your PC and try again (is like option C but deeper)

E. Create a new local administrator user in your PC and try from there

That's really odd.
And did you tried to reinstall your mouse driver using the device manager program?

Or... If you try connecting a different mouse the issue persist?

This can be a weird coincidence with the controller, but if your windows system is up to date, maybe an update causing this prokem
Try uninstalling the most recent windows update, just in case its the one causing conflicts

Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately, none of these suggestions helped:

A. After completing this step, the behavior remained.

B. The Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator driver was already up-to-date.

C. Even after disabling all startup programs, the behavior remained.

D. Even in a clean boot, the behavior remained.

E. Even logged in as a newly created administrator user, the behavior remained.

I also found an additional case where this seems to happen. If I try watching any video on any website, it seems to disable the mouse as well.

It isn't problem with sensivity, but with strange moves. In the main menu, mouse moves are normal, but when i'm in the game, even when I very fast move my mouse, mouse moves are very slow and when I stop mouse, suddenly mouse moves ar very fast and moves

did you happen to plug in a keyboard or mouse? did you try a power reset once?

or are you in the insider program and this is a bug in the program?

No keyboard or mouse, no power reset.

It is the insider program, it must be a bug.

great that it worked online. you can report the bug if you are in the insider program. just open the insider app on the console and create a new bug report
