    Motorola/Netopia: Port Forwarding

    Motorola/Netopia (Modems/Gateways): Port Forwarding
I STRONGLY SUGGEST USING THE SETTINGS I SPECIFY HERE (explained why below):

With Motorola NVG589: Assign the pre-loaded Xbox 360 service to your Xbox one (88 and 3074 (UDP/TCP) are already setup in this service). Then add three custom services using only these ports/protocols:

    Port 500 (UDP)

    Port 3544 (UDP)

    Port 4500 (UDP)

Unless you have some custom network setup in place, I can confirm this does work to set your NAT type to open.

Using the settings in this article will work, but also have a negative impact on the rest of your home network. You may not notice it at first, but it's important not to touch port 80 and 53. Xbox just says it needs those ports open, which they always are
anyway. Port 80 is dedicated to un-encrypted (normal http://) web browsing, and port 53 is a dedicated port for DNS (basically goes out to a server that translates www.whatever.com to an proper IP address). You don't want these forwarded directly to your Xbox
or any other game console unless you have a specific setup with a bridged router or something and know what you're doing.

    :)

I followed the directions until step 7. Where do we enter this? It asks for global port range (beginning and end) and for base host port. What do we input in each line?

So for the global port range you would input the same port for each. So for 3074 you would add 3074 for both the beginning and the end as well as the base port. If it doesn't allow you to add multiple ports per rule you will need to create multiple rules
until you have them all added. This is why I suggest a DMZ as it's faster and easier to setup than port forwarding and has the same effect.

The Port Numbers that are listed here don't really make sense.... There are only three areas that port numbers can be placed in and only a max of 5 'characters', that includes a coma, that can be entered in the space provided. There is the Global Port Range
{00000 - 00000} and then the Base Host Port {00000}. After this is done is there a reason to delete it all after words? or is this just something to know in the future?
