    Now my hard-drive looks empty. I know technically it is not but how do I go back

    to the time before I hit " Format" (and why is there no warning of the seemingly dire consequences of the format button?!

    the only way to fix it is to reformat your harddrive. unfortunately its probably an issue with your system
