I noticed the referral link aswell, very sneaky. Anyway here's the same deal but £1 cheaper from SimplyCDkeys. (None referral link), an yes they safe its part of Simplygames.

Edit: Ah yes it is a referral link, as you get a nice little "thank you for visiting our site" message when using your clickable link over the http://www.cdkeys.com/xbox-live/memberships/xbox-live-gold-12-month-membership-card-with-1-bonus-month-halo-4-branded-xbox-360 link
with the referral taken off.

• The referred friend purchases an Xbox Live Gold membership online from Xbox.com within fourteen (14) days of the referral (Xbox Live Gold retail code redemptions, pre-paid cards and promotional memberships do not qualify);

Since your friend used a prepaid card and did not purchase a subscription using the referral link, they did complete the offer.
