Missing Minecraft World

Now solved. Check comments for fix, I found one and have posted it down there.

Last Sunday I booted up Minecraft Windows 10 Edition to play on the Minecraft world that my girlfriend and I have been working on for about 4 months now - only to find it missing from the worlds list. I've found the world folder (found under C:\Users\<myname>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\games\com.mojang\minecraftWorlds\<jumbled
string>) and it appears to be intact, minus that the levelname.txt document has a bunch of spaces in it instead of the world name. The total size of the directory approximately matches the size of the world file that used to be listed in-game (which was around
150-160mb and the complete directory for the world is 180mb).

Besides restoring previous versions of the folder (which didn't work because no versions were available), every other tutorial on recovering these missing worlds has mentioned copy+pasting parts of the world folder to a brand new world's folder, but Windows
simply won't let me do this - instead telling me that "Your organisation does not allow you to place this file here" whenever I try to paste any of the contents of the "db" folder. This folder contains over 99.9% of the size of the directory, so I'd assume
that the .ldb files within it are how the game stores the world. This leaves me unable to backup or port those files anywhere and as such unable to fix the issue myself.

To clarify, I'm on my own PC so it shouldn't be a permissions issue and I'm guessing that it's a safety mechanism put in place by Microsoft to stop people from pirating behaviour packs by copying the files. I can, however, copy+paste the level.dat, level.dat_old,
levelname.txt and world_icon.jpeg files to wherever I please and have already backed them up.

With this in mind, does anybody have any idea of how to get the world to list itself in the game again? Any help is appreciated, thank you so so much.

I'd already tried that one-hadn't worked. I have, however, figured out how to fix it now; I had to paste the level.dat and level.dat_old files from a new world into the old one and it fixed it. I'll mark this as solved now, sorry about that

Hi,

Posting in case someone else has this issue. We found our world.

Although the world was started this year and played this week, we found it at the bottom of saved world list with last save noted as year 2014. We tried loading the 2014 world because the game size seemed similar and we did not have an xbox in 2014, so
it seemed to be an anomaly. It took a long time to load and synch, but otherwise came back fine and is saved with correct date again now.

As part of this investigation we’ve also found that Mojang (on their support page) recommends copying worlds as a backup regularly. Do this by selecting the pen icon next to world name and the copy option is at the bottom of the screen.

Thanks for coming to the forums with your question about a missing world. Unfortunately, there is no team that would be able to recover it. Cloud saves overwrite each other. You may reach out to
Mojang and see if they are able to recover it somehow.
