    Minesweeper No Longer Launches in Windows 10 (64 bit)


    A month ago, I was able to play Minesweeper on my Windows 10 (64 bit) PC. Just a few days ago I tried to open the game and it will not load. A window displays with a green background with "Microsoft Minesweeper" in the center. After a couple of seconds the
    window disappears. Repeated attempts result in the same behavior.

    I removed the app and re-downloaded and re-installed but the Xbox app will still not load.

    Observation: Xbox Live Microsoft Solitaire Collection loads with no hesitation or problem.

    What should I look for to diagnose and fix this issue?

    Can't connect any game to Xbox Live

    Wordament, Minesweeper, Solitaire, none will connect. I've tried every troubleshooting suggestion I could find and still can't connect. Using Windows 8 Pro 64 bit.

    Most 32-bit apps and games can run just fine on 64-bit versions of Windows 10 (Windows 11 is only 64-bit).

    It's not all about DirectX.

    1. 64-bit Windows 10 no longer supports 16-bit applications.
    2. Some older software depends on old Windows libraries that are no longer included with Windows 10.
    3. Since Windows XP, all versions of Windows no longer run on top of DOS.
    4. Older games rely on non-existent DRM (digital rights management) solutions that stop programs from booting.
    These 'Old Atari games' you mentioned running on Windows 10 would be running on an emulator. The emulator will be a Windows 64-bit application, it doesn't really matter how old the software the emulator can run, that's the whole point of the emulator in the first place.

    The games industry is over 40 years old, some publishers either no longer exist or their libraries or IP's (intellectual properties) are owned by other organisations now. This is the one of the biggest reasons why old games disappear and are no longer available to buy, unless second hand. It's not a simple process of just adding thousands of games from decades ago to Windows.
