In order to fix your Microsoft gaming services, you will need to perform a series of troubleshooting steps. Kindly make sure that your Windows, Device Drivers and Xbox app and gaming services are all up to date, here's how:

Windows:

Press the Start button on the taskbar, type settings, and then select Settings.

On Windows 10, select Update & Security. On Windows 11, select Windows Update.

On the Windows Update page, select Check for Updates to see if any updates are available for your device.

Once the updates have been downloaded, select Install Now to start the installation.

Following installation, we recommend that you restart your device so that the latest updates can take effect.

Device Drivers:

For the best game performance, make sure your system’s video card drivers (or display adapter drivers) are up to date. Drivers are available on the support website for your computer manufacturer, or if your computer system is custom built, on the video card manufacturer’s support website. Updating video card drivers can resolve game crashes, improve frame rates, and improve overall game performance.

Xbox and gaming services:

Press the Start button on the taskbar, type store, and open the Microsoft Store app.

Select Library.

Under Updates & Downloads, check if there are any updates available for the Xbox app or Gaming Services app. If an update is available, select Update.

Once you're done, try to check if the game installation will work.

It seems you have exhausted all the troubleshooting steps yet the issue still persists.

I have resolved a similar issue before, the gamer had decided to reformat the C: Drive where the Windows was installed then proceeds to download the Xbox app, and then game downloads/installation worked normally.

Kindly do the same however before you proceed with your reformat, make sure to back up your files.

Tried all this and nothing changed, still not working.

Also tried installing a different game through Xbox app and as soon as install starts it comes up with Error code: 0x86e00196

This happens with any new game I try to download from Game Pass, but i do own a few games outright on the Xbox App and these start downloading just fine. So just issue with Game Pass games.

I have Game Pass Ultimate and I am signed into everything (Xbox App, Microsoft Store, Windows Pc account) using the same microsoft account. Running windows 10.

Select Clear Account Sign-In Data and confirm.

And then restart Xbox Live services. Open the Services menu on your PC (search for "Services" in the Start menu).

Locate and restart the following services:

Xbox Live Auth Manager

Xbox Live Game Save

Xbox Live Networking Service

Relaunch Minecraft and then check if the issue is resolved.

Next is to check your internet connection. Make sure that your internet connection is stable and not blocking Microsoft services. You may switch to a different network (e.g., mobile hotspot) to test.

It is also important that your game is updated to the latest version because outdated versions can cause login issues.

Please check for pending updates. To do this open the Microsoft Store or Xbox app and ensure there are no pending updates for Minecraft Bedrock Edition because an incomplete update can cause installation issues.

And then repair or reset the game by going to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.

Find Minecraft Bedrock Edition, click on it, and select Advanced Options.

Choose Repair first. If that doesn’t work, try Reset.

Next is to clear Microsoft Store cache. Press Win + R to open the Run dialog.

Type wsreset.exe and press Enter. This will clear the Microsoft Store cache and might resolve the issue.

Then reinstall gaming services. Open PowerShell as an administrator.

Run the following commands:

get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers

start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN

This will reinstall the Gaming Services package, which is essential for Minecraft.

After that is to check Xbox services. Kindly ensure that Xbox-related services (like Xbox Live Auth Manager) are running. You can check this in the Services app.
