    Over Xmas I purchased the three months of Xbox access for the price of one deal in order to buy Minecraft at a cheaper price for my son. I don't play online games as much as I used to, so I cancelled the Xbox access soon after as I'd have no use for it
    and had now bought the only game I really wanted. After the Xbox access had expired, I believed that my son would still be able to play Minecraft (after all, I had purchased it). Today however, a message popped up when he tried to load it saying he didn't
    have the necessary subscription, even though I own the game and he only plays offline on my account. I've bought another month of Xbox access for the moment and uninstalled and reinstalled the game to make it work, but I'm curious as to why I've had to buy
    additional month of online access in order for him to play a game offline which is already installed. Any help?

    Hey there ekulrob,

    Thanks for reaching out to the Forums for clarity on this subject. I can totally understand how this could throw anyone off. You can make sure you purchased the game successfully by checking on your account's
    order history.     I think that it might be that when you initially downloaded the game you were downloading while subscribed to Game Pass. Now you no longer have a subscription, and there might be some kind of discrepancy with what is saved on your console
    concerning your licenses and what's updated on Xbox Live. I recommend
    removing your account and redownloading     it back to the Xbox.

    When you get the chance, give that a shot and let us know if that helped.

    It hasn't worked. I've bought Xbox live gold as a last fleeting effort, he tried to play Minecraft, and it still says to make sure the subscription is in date. I've been to the Xbox store and it says 'this product is installed' and has the option to press
    play, which doesn't work. I've removed my account twice and redownloaded it, even turned the Xbox off at the switches and it simply refuses to work. Why can't my son play his game? I've spent enough money as it is.

    That's the problem, I had bought it for the discounted price but I had to buy Xbox access again for it to work. Do I fully own the game or not?

    Game Pass is just a trial for games, it gives you free access to multiple games i believe for month but I am not 100% sure. It is like a free trial and once the trial is up, if you enjoy the game you can buy it at a discounted price (the price shown now)
