Minecraft wants me to get a new gamertag

I signed out and back in to my Minecraft account. But once i signed in it tells me to get a new username, i go in and type in my username and it’s taken. but it’s my account. on minecraft i don’t want to lose my in-game progress and it showed error code drowned on bedrock, i’ve troubleshooted once and it still doesn’t work.

Since you were asked for a gamertag even if you already have a gamertag for your Minecraft account it is possible that you might have been logged in to a different/ wrong email address for your Minecraft account.

Kindly double-check the email and make sure to sign into the correct Minecraft account.

To set your expectation properly, if ever issue do still persist in regards with your Minecraft account and gamertag, we do have limited resources here on our end to check on those account in which where your gamertag has been associated with another account.

This does not answer the orignal question, this simply offers a way to reset the password. The problem is that the users original Gamertag is no longer associated with the email address that was used to purchase Minecraft, and a new Gamertag was created and assigned to that same email. The user wants to use their original Gamertag and therefore have access to their purchased Minecraft.

I am having this same issue. My Microsoft account did not recognize my Gamertag, I was asked to create a new one. Now when I logon I only see the new Gamertag, and I do not get credit for purchasing Minecraft, therefore I'm being promtped to buy it again. I would like my Gamertag (which was successfuly migrated in April 2021) to be associated with my Microsoft account email. THIS is the issue I think the original post refers to.

What I mean is there should still be a way to get the game and Gamertag back for no cost. I only play Minecraft, so it isn't as big a deal to lose all the achievements, but there should be a way to keep my Gamertag and the game itself. I want to be able to transfer my Gamertag to a different account. If I delete my Gamertag and change it on my dad's account, then can I set my Gamertag back to what it was originally with no changes to it on my new account?
