We totally understand that you want to settle things out and play the game you redeemed on your account. Just a reminder, we are not able to double check your account and purchases here manually since we do not have the option to. There could be a lot of possible reason why your friend is being asked to purchase the game.

First, your friend might be logged on to a different account.

Second, the Minecraft token/gift card your friend used to purchase the game has expired or was not properly redeemed. I recommend that your friend check the expiration date of the token/gift card.

If the issue persists after checking everything, it would be the best to contact our dedicated Xbox live support so that they can manually check your friend's account, purchases, and codes redeemed on his account.

Please follow the steps below to reach out to our live support team:

2. Scroll down and look at the lower left side if you can see the page matches the country/region you are currently located.
3. If not, please select the country/region it is showing and select the correct one among the lists.
4. Make sure to use to check the available contact times of the support.
5. Select the "Contact Us" button
6. Select the drop-down menu options that will match your concern.
7. The next window will provide you with support articles based on your request and we recommend reviewing the relevant articles before selecting the "See contact options" button.
8. On the final window, you will be presented with multiple options. We suggest selecting either the "Chat online" or the "Request a call" options to speak with someone. Be sure to provide as much detail as possible.
9. If you cannot get connected to the support, please use the Virtual Agent and enter this exact phrase, "Talk to an agent".

To set your expectation properly, all completed purchases on your account such as games, add-ons, subscriptions and more is saved to your Order history immediately.

This time, kindly verify the purchase of Minecraft to your account by going to: https://account.microsoft.com>; Order history.

Once you see the game from there, it means that you have successfully bought the game. And to install it, please go to Store> Search for the game> Install.

I hit buy now and it is making me buy the game. It also says in the bottom left that it cannot connect to minecraft services on the launcher.
