Minecraft Launcher icon is missing on desktop.

If you're experiencing issues with the Minecraft Launcher icon on your desktop, and it appears as a paper icon instead, there are a few things you can try to resolve the problem:

Use Disk Cleanup to Clear the Icon Cache

1. Type the command cleanmgr using the key combination Windows + R and hold Enter
   
2. Select drive (C
   
3. 
   
   
   
   (Note: drive selection will only appear if you have more than one drive)
   
4. Select unnecessary files and thumbnails to start cleaning
   
5. 
   
   
   

Rebuild the icon cache through Command Prompt: The icon cache is a database that stores the icons for your files and programs. Sometimes, it can become corrupted, causing incorrect icons to be displayed. To rebuild the icon cache, follow these steps:

• Close any open programs.
  
• Press Windows + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box.
  
• Type "cmd" and press Enter to open the Command Prompt (Run as administrator)
  
• In the Command Prompt window, type the following command and press Enter:
  
  

  cd /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local

• Next, type this command and press Enter:
  
  

  del IconCache.db /a

• Finally, type the following command and press Enter:
  
  

  shutdown /r /f /t 00

• Your computer will restart, and the icon cache will be rebuilt. Check if the Minecraft Launcher icon is now displayed correctly.

hello Raj and YoadKalif I hope you're doing well

I had the same problem after performing a OS re-install.
This problem happens when you install Minecraft from the MS Store without being authenticated and I'll tell you why. After doing some tests with Wireshark I noticed the Minecraft Launcher itself loads the SVG icon from the web. So for that reason you must authenticate on the MS Store by logging in. Then you install the launcher again. You will find the icon is properly loaded.

You can run Minecraft successfully and the shortcut icon is missing, is it right?

If the above solutions do not help you, I will try to provide you with some new solutions.

For this problem, after testing it, I found that after downloading and installing Minecraft Launcher through the Microsoft Store (not through the Xbox app), then dragging Minecraft Launcher from the Start menu to the desktop, the resulting shortcut works fine.

So, if you've ever downloaded Minecraft Launcher from the Xbox App, try downloading it from the Microsoft Store.

If you find the same problem with Minecraft Launcher downloaded through the Microsoft Store, I recommend uninstalling the Xbox App completely via Powershell, then downloading and installing it again:

1.Open PowerShell: In Windows, press Win + X keys and select "Windows PowerShell (Administrator)" option to open PowerShell with administrative privileges.

2.Get the package name of the Xbox app: In PowerShell, run the following command to retrieve the package name of the Xbox app:

3.Uninstall the Xbox app: Use the following command to uninstall the Xbox app, replacing with the actual package name obtained in the previous step:<PackageFullName>

For example, if the package name obtained is , the command would be:Microsoft.XboxApp_8wekyb3d8bbwe

powershellCopy codeRemove-AppxPackage -Package Microsoft.XboxApp_8wekyb3d8bbwe

4.Wait for the uninstallation to complete: Once you execute the uninstallation command, the system will begin uninstalling the Xbox app. Please be patient and wait for the process to finish.

After completing the above steps, the Xbox app will be uninstalled from your computer. Then download and install it again from the Microsoft Store.

Hey, its still showing a paper icon even tho i did both of these.

but it's not like that. it did not add my Minecraft launcher, not even a "paper icon."
