    We bought and had Minecraft Java edition working great, albeit bought on 'mums email / microsoft account' and being played by 'child 1 windows login'.

    'Suddenly', Minecraft Java is only able to 'Play Demo'...but the game and continue...' (we already bought he game as mentioned.

    I have tried logging out, back in, childs account, and back to 'mums' microsoft account login, even making sure the MC Store is logged in with 'mums account', and reinstalling java / launcher etc, and it still says 'Play Demo'.

    One thing I have noticed is an identical gamertag 'Child1GamerTag' seems to be associated with:

    1. mums microsoft account

    2. child1's microsoft account

    3. child1's mincraft username if I log in as them

    Potentially the Gamertag link is checking 'Child1's microsoft account' for purchase (rather than 'mums microsoft account' which hold the license? (The new 'Child1GamerTag' wa created around the same time this all went wrong)

    [NB - we didn't setup a Mojang account and have never needed to migrate]

    Hello, My name is Jesse. I'm an Independent Advisor and a member of the Microsoft community and I'd love to assist you today.

    The only way around this would be to repurchase the game on the child account directly. With the gamertag change, the game now requires that account to have its own license in order to continue playing. Unfortunately there's no way around this.

    It is all the same email. I can sign in to the Microsoft account without issue. The issue is that it doesn't shoe a purchase of java minecraft. I can play minecraft for windows with that account without issue. Just not the Java version. There is no error message, but I only have access to the demo. The account is secured with my phone number.

    Perhaps we can explore why I have windows minecraft but not Java minecraft. Articles indicate that I should have access to both.

    Thank you for responding and I appreciate your cooperation. Let's try other troubleshooting steps to fix the issue.

    To install Minecraft Java Edition, go to the Minecraft download page and download the game client. You can download the game client even if you don't own the game, but you will only be able to play the Minecraft Demo Mode. After downloading the client, double-click the shortcut icon to run it.

    minecraft works on one account but not other

    Hi magnum2468!

    If it works fine on the other account, it means that the game was purchased through that account. The Minecraft Java Edition can't be played in full if you don't purchase the game through your own or preferred account.
