    Minecraft Java fails to launch due to missing files. How do I fix this?


    I tried on multiple occasions to launch Minecraft this month and each time I got the same error message. I have played Minecraft on my current device before, but not in many years. I may have uninstalled it between the last time I played and when I tried to play again recently.

    I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Minecraft launcher, uninstalling and reinstalling Java, and uninstalling every file named "Minecraft" to prevent accidental duplicates of files.

    Minecraft Bedrock and Minecraft Dungeons both launch and play fine.

    The error message is listed below.

    When you run the launcher, it will start to automatically download the latest version and place the required files in the application data folder (in your user profile folder) on your PC. It will then launch the game. It does this each time an updated version comes out.

    Starfield Downloadable Content is downloading to the XboxGames folder and not the Starfield folder.

    Except they're saying the content is missing when I try to launch my save file and people javelin posted guides showing how to fix it but I can't move the files because I'm locked out of doing so for some reason.

    Checking the pictures, it seems that Minecraft is installed on the D: drive.
    If yes, can you try to move - reinstall the game on the C: drive instead?

    If that doesn't work try creating a new local administrator user in your PC and try from there
