Minecraft Java Edition Won't Launch Despite Me Owning It

TL ; DR - I have tried every conceivable thing I can to get access to Minecraft Java Edition, a game I payed full price for, because my Gamepass Subscription expired and locked me out of being able to access the Minecraft Launcher.

So, I tried playing Minecraft Java today, but it gave me this error code when I tried opening the Minecraft Launcher from my Windows 10.

I looked it up and this has to do with a Gamepass expiration issue or something, but here is the kicker: I purchased Java Edition in November of 2021. My Gamepass Subscription DID expire but that shouldn't affect my ability to play Java Edition. I own this game. Why won't it run?

Another forum post mentioned that I needed to go to the Mojang Website and go to [My Games] but when I went to the link they provided, I got this.

Here is where I run into my next problem, my Mojang account and Microsoft account are linked and there is no option to sign in through my Microsoft account. I can do so if I go to the Minecraft Website but doing that redirects me to a different page than where I am trying to go. So that's a bust.

A commenter in this tread Says Minecraft is not owned on this account but it is when I log into - Microsoft Community says that issues like this require tier two Microsoft support to fix the issue with the account itself but lo and behold, the link provided does not even give me the chance.

I ended up uninstalling the launcher but then I had trouble reinstalling it because it kept telling me I could own it via Gamepass. I rebooted the computer and the problem disappeared, allowing me to reinstall and play. Thanks for the help!!

Go to the Microsoft store and search for the Minecraft launcher, where it has the option ‘Get‘ next to ‘Play’. Choosing ,get, will update the launcher and it should work….L Microsoft

Sorry to hear about the issues you are having with Minecraft, both with the launcher and the Java edition.

With the first above error message, we have seen some success in the community with people uninstalling and reinstalling the game. I would recommend that as your first action to see if you can get past that error.

I would also recommend, if you haven't already, opening a ticket with Mojang support here. The troubleshooting requirements to help people out with account issues has led for the Mojang team to help in a wider capacity with these types of issues. So the tier 2 agent support might not apply for this scenario any longer.

Also, are you having any issues accessing the bedrock edition of the game?

I will be more than happy to continue to help with this, so please reply with any updated info or if the reinstall solution worked.

Hello mimim2,

The Minecraft launcher you are referring to is only for the Java edition of Minecraft. The Java edition and Windows 10, are two separate games. In order to launch and play Minecraft from the launcher you are using in the last image, you must buy the Java
edition from the site, not the Windows 10 version. Minecraft Java Edition | Minecraft. Annoying I know, but when Microsoft acquired Minecraft they released
their own version of the game on their platform. Hope this helps
