Okay after doing this nothing has changed it still isn't letting me play multiplayer but it lets me play realms which is very confusing

May I ask what is the exact error or issue that you’re experiencing whenever you’re trying to play the game?

Also, you’ll need the Minecraft for Windows PC if you will be playing with a player that also uses bedrock edition of the game.

Thank you for letting me know. Do you have an Xbox Console Companion installed on your PC? If yes, kindly launch the Xbox Console Companion App and sign in from there using the same Microsoft account. After that qiit and re-launch the Minecraft launcher.
