    Minecraft Java Edition and Family Sharing


    So this might be a long shot in the dark here, however I get the feeling that many others are experiencing the same headache with this. It appears that if you have Game Pass Ultimate then you can share games with family members as long as the primary account is logged in on that PC. I had setup my child's computers to play Minecraft Java Edition and from what I had gathered when signing up for game pass ultimate that I would be able to share all the games that I own with my children's accounts as well.

    I found this link that list at the bottom of the FAQ which states that family sharing of the Java version is not supported, yet bedrock edition is supported.

    My question would be why is this? If someone is going to pay to subscribe to a service that Microsoft owns and the player expects to share and play content with family in the same house, then why only bedrock and not java edition? Is there any plans to allow Java Edition for family share in the near future?

    I had the same problem,it says i can t play java beacuse i play minecraft windows edition through family sharing,but like 4 months ago it works,i had java and windows edition(i bought Win edition from 2019),and now i don t get what the problem is

    Thanks for taking the time to share it. If you sign in to the Minecraft website, are you able to redeem Minecraft Java Edition there, does it show that you also own Java Edition or it asks you to buy Java Edition?

    Sorry to hear about that, however, since you have a different Store account from what you use for gaming, unfortunately, the access for Java isn't shareable. Only the account that has the game (your work email) has access to it. Try to sign in using that account on the Xbox app and the Minecraft launcher to access this version of the game.

    You may refer here: https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/66... and look for "I family-share my account with my children, will they get both versions of Minecraft?" and it states that "No, only the account that purchased Java or Bedrock will have access to Java Edition. Family sharing will work for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition." - Same goes for you, as you have a different Store account.

    I bought Minecraft Java&Bedrock deluxe edition for my pc, but it will only let me play the bedrock edition even though i bought both.

    Based on additional research, if you bought Minecraft Java and Bedrock together but can only play Minecraft for Windows, it may be due to family sharing. If you are playing Minecraft for Windows through family sharing, you may not be able to access Minecraft: Java Edition without buying on this account.



    You can also try signing out on Microsoft Store App, Xbox App, as well as Minecraft launcher then sign back in.

    Or, try to validate first if the transaction is successful. Please sign in to Microsoft account | Order history and check if you can see the order from there stated as “completed”. Once confirmed sign out on Microsoft Store App, Xbox App, as well as Minecraft launcher then sign back in.
