Minecraft is awesome

If you got trojans than you must've downloaded it illegally or something. Minecraft.net has a free alpha version if people wanna try it, definitely safe.

Like I said in my post you need light to keep your house safe. You also need to make sure the place is well lit, dark spots can allow enemies to spawn and surprise you.

Also in the new version on PC enemies will be able to open doors. The xbox version will be behind in versions but I assume it will eventually get to that point. Once that happens no one will be safe!

Advice-

As soon as you start you should work on a basic shelter for the night. Either punch trees or punch some dirt, or both. Make four walls and a roof or dig into the side of a hill/underground so you don't need to waste time building.

You could also just make a tall dirt pole to stand on if you're running out of time or don't have any torches(a dark room at night can be bad since enemies can spawn).

If you can you should make a wood pick before nightfall so you can get some stone. Stone isn't hard to find, usually right under the first couple layers of dirt. If your shelter is in a hillside/underground you'll get it for sure. Get at least 8 pieces to
make a furnace. Once you have a furnace you can cook some raw wood using wood planks as fuel to get charcoal. With that you can make a torch or two so your shelter has light to prevent monster spawning.

Once you have a shelter and light you'll be good for the night. After that you can work on making stuff like a bed(so you can set your spawnpoint there), doors, stone tools, ect.

Wolf TFD said to not go out at night. That's good advice most of the time for newbs but if you''ve got an open space and a weapon you can do it just fine. Keep moving and be aware of your surroundings. If you see creepers coming at you just hit them once
and back up, repeat. Any other monsters can be dealt with by just fighting normally. If you die you'll just drop your stuff on the ground and spawn back at the spawn point, no big loss. Fighting enemies can pass the time if you have no bed and you can collect
items to help progress. Don't try to collect resources though unless you know what you're doing. Creepers are silent until they're about to blow up and they live up to their name.

Errrrr......don't go out at night? Seriously, don't go out at night. The ghost of Michael Jackson will get you, as will other horrible creatures.
