Minecraft Dungeons PC Off-line multiplayer - how to add 2nd player

I'm trying to play Minecraft Dungeons multi-player off-line and having trouble adding the 2nd player.

I have two xbox controllers connected to the PC. Both controller show they they are on. When the second controller is plugged in, I see a "press 'L'" to add 2nd player on the fire-pit page I can press any button on the 2nd controller and nothing happens.
Same thing happens when I try to 2nd player in-game.

It's not the USB port because I use use either of my USB ports for the 1st player.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Have have two USB controllers, not wireless.

Xbox player can only play with Xbox players, and PC can only play with PC players. BUT, in the near to not to far future, we will be able to play CROSS PLATFORM, like Minecraft, and Dungeon Defenders Only when Xbox updates catch up to PC updates! Sorry for
any Inconvenience

Minecraft is available through Game Pass on the console, but not the PC. Minecraft Dungeons is available for the PC.
