Minecraft Child Account Permissions not Working on Switch

My son has a Microsoft child account which he uses for Minecraft on Switch.

I have set the family permissions correctly and he has previously been able to play the game with us.

Recently, when he logs in, he successfully signs in to his Microsoft account, but cannot play on his save file or join our games because he receives a permissions error message.

I have checked the family settings and they haven't changed.

I have also checked his network connectivity and that has no problems either.

How do I force his account to recognise that he is allowed to play online? Currently my only work around is to log into the family settings disabled and re-enable his permissions.

    :)

Minecraft Child Account Permissions not Working on Switch

Note: Since you’re accessing sensitive information, you may be asked to enter your password or PIN. Select the gamertag of the parent/child account you want to manage. Select the Online Safety tab or the Privacy tab on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10 devices. Review your current settings and update all options to “Allow” and “Everyone,” then select Submit to save your changes. Note: You must select Submit at the bottom of the page before exiting or switching to another tab. If you don’t submit your changes before switching to the other tab, they won’t be saved. Next, check to see if your daughter can play Minecraft multiplayer online on her Switch. Thank you for your kindness and understanding! Feel free to let me know if you need anything else. Best regards, Tadeu.

Minecraft Child Account Permissions not Working on Switch

Hi, my name is Tadeu, I'm an independent consultant and a Microsoft Xbox user just like you.

    I'm here to help.

I hope everything is going well and thank you for reaching out.

This support is intended to answer questions about the use and configuration of devices.

I'm sorry you're experiencing this issue with your child's Xbox privacy settings. Please follow the instructions to manage your child's account privacy settings as per the official Xbox article: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/family-onli....

Note: Make sure your parent account is the "Organizer" and your child's account is the "Family Member" in a Microsoft family for this to work. Sign in to your adult/Organizer Microsoft account on Xbox.com. Select your Gamertag, then select the More actions button (...). Select Xbox Settings, then select Privacy & Online Safety.

    no microphone on child account

    Some additional information:

    - this is not a hardware problem. The microphone works fine on the parents account

    - I created a new child account and gave it exactly the same permissions as the child account that does not work.

The microphone works fine on the newly created child account.

The party feedback showing that microphone works shows up for an instant when switching to the account that does not work.

I tried resetting all family settings for the account that does not work, but that did not make a difference.

    Minecraft Realms Nintendo Switch

    Hi Alex,

Thanks for reaching out to us in the forums for this issue with Minecraft Realms on the Nintendo Switch. Based on the message you received, it may be possible that your account doesn't have the correct permissions to access online multiplayer across different
    devices.

Is your account a child or adult account? Players under 13 years old will have online multiplayer disabled by default with Minecraft and
won’t be able to join Realms or servers unless a parent changes their account settings.
For help with changing these account settings, you will need to change your
Privacy and Online settings of the Xbox Live account.

For further information on this and other information related to Minecraft Realms or Minecraft on the Nintendo Switch, I recommend the following support articles:

I hope that this information helps out!

Why am I asked to give my son's account permission to run Netflix when using my own account?

Unfortunately none of the ideas there is even remotely close to this.

I understand the potential issue, but as I said up front, the Xbox already asks for the PIN when I switch. That, though inconvenient, would cover the case when kids are switching account in order to try to get access to something they shouldn't have access
    to.

The problem isn't there, but that the Xbox then requests to grant permissions to the child account, which is confusing, because that's precisely what I didn't want to do.

The expected behaviour would be for the Xbox to ask for a PIN when running the app or game, and if the account is switched back to the child account while the app is running, to ask for permission.
