    Anyone know how to change the name it had given me?!

    I have been looking at this as for some reason, my GamerTag is my real name

    It would appear that the only place you can change your GamerTag is on the XBOX itself however there is the small matter that Microsoft also want the best part of £7 for the privilege!!!

    Inactive Accounts

    Does not matter if an account is inactive or not gamertags are only purged and made available rarely by Microsoft.

    If your gamertag has been inactive for a couple of years microsoft will automatically purge them

    Gamertags are not an on-demand service. Very rare Microsoft will purge inactive Gamertags freeing them up but there is no set timeframe. Your best bet is to keep checking availability periodically until you can use it.
