Microsoft / Switch Child Account Connection

We have an Xbox, and after much, much frustration managed to get a family Microsoft account set up to work (somewhat) smoothly.

Now my son (who has a child membership under our family account) has bought a Nintendo Switch and wants to play with his friends across platforms.

It has asked to link the Microsoft account, which we have done.

Problem is, it uses my gamertag to log in (as the family account owner), not his, and I can’t find anywhere that this can be changed over to reflect his gamertag.

It seems Microsoft sends you round and round in circles, and Nintendo have no instructions anywhere! Can anyone help?

The Switch does not allow this - it only asks to link your Microsoft account. When you do this, it defaults to the main parent account automatically and there is no option to change it to the child account, either at time of linking or within the Switch console settings.

And, because the Switch does not show up as a device within my Microsoft account, there is no way to change it here either.

Yes, I know that’s what’s happened.

There is no apparent option to do otherwise. I was hoping someone may have discovered a way to do this via their Microsoft account.

No, maybe Mojang can do it or maybe only Nintendo can do it.

You've probably linked your Nintendo account to your adult Microsoft account. I recommend contacting Mojang to see if they can remove this account and link to another one.

Got it. Do you have your child's account email and password? Have you tried using this information to log into the console?
