    I recently purchased Astroneer for my Xbox and I noticed it was a play anywhere game. I put it on my laptop and made sure to turn on the allow games to be played offline option in the microsoft store but when I was about to start the game offline, it would
    never load. The microsoft store said for me to start the game while I was online. Why is this? Licensing?

    assassin's Creed Odyssey is not sold by Microsoft on the Microsoft store which would be a base requirement of being a play anywhere title.

    Forza horizon five is a play anywhere game

    99% of games require you to buy them on each platform you wish to play them on

    I understand that you are playing on PC, however buying a game from the Microsoft Store and then trying to go online using the Xbox Live service requires you to have an Xbox Live Gold subscription. Whether you are playing a game on PC or on the Xbox, if
    you are using the Xbox Live service to play with others online, you will need an active Xbox Live Gold subscription. Forza Horizon 4 is actually an

    Xbox Play Anywhere title    , which means you can play on PC and Xbox using the same digital license you bought through the Microsoft Store. Since FH4 is exclusive to the Microsoft Store, you will need an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play online.

    According to an interview with a Microsoft representative on GameSpot (found here:

    www.gamespot.com/.../1100-6440846    ), “Xbox Live Gold isn’t required for playing games that are Xbox Play Anywhere other than enjoying online multiplayer with those games on Xbox One.”

    Therefore, I think it is safe to say you won't need Xbox Live Gold to play the game on PC.

    Core/Game Pass Ultimate is not required to play online on PC. So if you play a Play Anywhere title on PC, you can play it without another subscription.

    Nintendo switch operates on its own store, that Microsoft does not have access to, if you’re thinking about play anywhere, no Minecraft games are play anywhere, and require a separate purchase on each platform. Play anywhere only works between Windows store and Xbox, no other platforms on titles that have it enabled.

    If you are attempting to connect your switch to your Microsoft account, all you have to do is sign in in the game to your Microsoft account.
