Microsoft is trying to charge me for changing my gamertag.

I just merged my Minecraft account with my Microsoft account, and got a gamertag assigned to me automatically. Now when I try to change it, its asking me to pay for it. Shouldn't it first ask me what gamertag I want and only if I decide to change it after
that charge me for it?

Is the first gamertag change really free?

The xbox support page about changing gamertags says:

"Follow these steps to change your gamertag. Note that the first time you change your gamertag, there’s no charge. However, there will be a small charge for all subsequent changes."

I followed the steps and I have never changed my gamertag before but it is still trying to charge me $9.99?

Best way to handle gamertags/accounts for Xbox One

My gamertag was changed on me one day saying it was offensive. I get on Microsoft to change my gamer id and they trying to charge me 10$. HOW is Thothead offensive?? If Microsoft changes my gamertag to something gay, I should be able to get a free name change
but NOOOO I contact support and get nothing after 20 mins of chatting live. I am soooo freakin *** at Microsoft for infringing on my religious beliefs by changing my gamer id to begin with..... Would it have been offensive if Jesus was in my gamertag??

I never changed my gamertag. My gamertag displays my complete name when I play online. I have been trying to change it, but microsoft want 10 bucks for it! Even though it states that you can change it atleast ones for free! This is a security issue for me.
Can someone help me change my gamertag not to display my full name without getting charged for it? Thanks!

The free Gamertag change on a new Xbox Live account lasts for 30 days. Since you mentioned it's been a few years since that account was created, that would be the cause for the charge popping up. Here's a different

Change Gamertag page to try out. If the free option does not pop up, then the $9.99 charge will be required to change your Gamertag. Gamertags cannot be removed from a Microsoft Account once it has been set.

Hi ive had my gamertag changed and when xbox investigated the situation they said it had been changed internally from the Microsoft company, and an advisor said that the enforcement team will be able to change it for me as if I was to change it on xbox it
will charge me. how do I get it changed please?
