Microsoft Flight now asking for a key, but this was supposed to be a free game?

Hello,

I have just downloaded Microsoft Flight onto my new computer and when I log in it is now asking me for a key, despite the original being a free download.

I also purchased all the add on's for this game through games for windows, and of course will now need to download these again for my new computer, how can I now download these purchases from your site?

Please refer to Palmetto's response since it's a very good answer as to why it's asking you for a verification key. I don't think there is any other way to simply just download it and play since it's no longer available and Games for Windows Live is no longer
supported.

Apologies for the inconvenience but I recommend checking out that link Palmetto provided. Since there is no further resolution in regards to this matter and this game is no longer available, I will now be locking this thread. Feel free to come back anytime

Microsoft Flight was developed and offered as a Free title for a while, but they have made that no longer available sometime around 2012. It used Games for Windows Live services which are no longer maintained. I believe there is a version on Steam that
is still accessible for most of the single player content, but it is no longer for sale, you would have had to have purchased it there prior.

I think it might be asking for a CD key to validate "ownership" or "content ownership" but since there are no longer the servers to verify, it's asking for the key. I'm afraid that if you don't have the steam version purchased from long ago, or the Games
for Windows Live version already installed and verified, that there is no easy way to play this game.

I'd recommend checking out this Wikipedia article I found to validate what I had vaguely remembered.

Hey there, are you using the exact same account you used on your old computer?

Yes am using exact same email and password, this logs me into my Microsoft Account as used for games for windows.

Microsoft Flight Simulator X is a free game, you can make a new account that's not connected to any parental account and simply get the key from there and then enter it in on your main account, it wouldn't matter either way.
