Microsoft Confirms Windows 10 To Launch Worldwide This Summer

@Randver...While I'm sure millions of people game on P.C., Microsoft's primary focus should be business. The last statistic I read, there was 1.1 billion computers in the world (2 billion by 2016.), so there must be a whole lot more people buying computers
for work/school rather than gaming.

You do have me curious though on how games (Real games as opposed to the simple games that I do play on P.C..) work on Windows 10; may have to try it out.

@Galactic Geek...Follow the link Randver gave. I've been using 10 for months and really like it. Boot up/shut down times are MUCH quicker than 7 and it seems to be a overall smoother experience. I've only had one problem with it, and it took me about 10
minutes to reload my account and get back in the game.

I'm a Silver XBOX Member and I sent a message from my PC, which uses Windows 7, to an "Xbox Live friend" earlier today via xbox.ca, why is this such a Big Deal?...

That's the impression I was under too until they announced Win 10. One of the big features Win 10 will be offering developers is the ability to easily port games between different platforms. If games on the One aren't running under any type of Win 10 OS
then that statement doesn't hold water.

Will pre-Win 10 games continue to run under the old OS? Or will they already run under Win 10? Will they be patched to run under 10? Will we continue to have 3 OS's on the One (seems extremely bloated for even a PC let alone a console)? Lots of questions
and no answers.

I agree PC gamers are a small minority in the scheme of things and we'll survive even if MS screws up, we always do. My bigger concern is how this impacts the One if they release to soon. People buy One's to game and if Win 10 screws up gaming....that's
bad.

 

To be honest there were two things that annoyed me about Windows 8 at launch.

One was the Metro UI and how everything I installed was dumped onto there. It's much better in .1 as it now uses a sub screen and lets you Pin what you want. Though to be honest I used Classic Shell pretty much from the start to give myself a classic style
start menu.

Second, and an issue that still exists, is the split nature of the OS. User Account control for example is split between the classic and metro versions of the control panel. I can create a user account in the metro ui but to delete that account I must go
into the classic control panel.

As to the Xbox One, just because Windows 10 is out for PC doesn't mean they have to add it to the Xbox One at the same time.

The games I think they are referring to are the app style games, Angry Birds for example. So buy that game for your phone and it'll run on the One.

Personally I'm not seeing the reason for the love Windows 10 is getting. Pretty much seems like Windows 8.1 but with a bloated start menu.

Edit: Missed something that annoys me about Windows 8.1. It wont run Star Trek: Armada.

For anyone that is in the Insiders Program, build 10041 is now available.

You might have to manually update to the new build if you choose your updates to arrive under the "slow" setting.

 

Well that is what I meant Randver. They give 1 year to upgrade your new or existing system with Win 7, Win 8, or Win 8.1 to Win 10 for free and once you do that your Win 10 OS will continuously receive windows updates for the lifetime of the device at no
additional charge. 1 year is plenty of time to back up data and upgrade to new OS.

If we get a repeat of Win 8 then 1 year isn't plenty of time.

We had games that wouldn't run and games benched significantly slower in Win 8 for nearly 2 years after launch. If PC gamers choose to wait until the performance of 10 is equal to or better than 7 or the current version of 8 we could be well past the free
period.

 

Yay i hate that windows 8 UI.
