Microsoft Authenticator does not let change my personal details and reason since I moved...

    Hi everyone,

I have recently moved to UK from the USA and can't use my Microsoft Authenticator app, therefore, can't log into my Xbox account or use any services.

The reason this error has been occurring is because the app is still connected to my old phone number in the USA and I can't pass through the two-step verification when using the app because the app uses that old number (which is deactivated now) to confirm any changes in my account, let alone letting me in.

I contacted a MS tech support who, surprisingly, did not know what to do and asked me to actually ask a question here instead.

So here I am! Please, if you can help me, really do. It is kind of an urgent matter since now I don't even have access to Outlook anymore.

    Best regards,

    Eder

    :)

Microsoft Authenticator does not let change my personal details and reason since I moved from the USA to the UK

Hi and thanks for reaching Microsoft Xbox gamer's community. My name is Josef.
I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft Xbox user like you.

Hope you're doing great today despite this Eder

If you're not able to access to this old phone number you can try the methods listed here in order to recover the account

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com...

Please note that Microsoft support can't help to recover 2FA accounts

That's not good at all. The only way an authenticator app would be used is if the person originally had your login details. If you've shared your personal information in the past with others they may have done this. You could try downloading the same authenticator app and change the email access for it but some authenticators are specific to platforms.

If that's the case I'm afraid the only way to get your info removed from it may be from the source itself. You would need to physically remove the authenticator from the app then log out and change your password.

Can you help recover my stolen account?

Thank you for your response. I went through these steps last night and I was able to recover the account for a short period of time but the person that stole/hacked the account has signed into the Microsoft Authenticator so as soon as I changed my password they were able to go in and change it to something else. Because of the Authenticator I was unable to change the credentials on the account such as email address and phone number.

    Fraudulent Charges

But Microsoft redeemed the gift cards to someone's account! That someone is the thief. The person getting the giftcards does not know my credit card information, Microsoft has this, likely all they had was my password. I changed my password and downloaded
the Microsoft authenticator app to my phone, but literally someone redeemed this specific gift cards to their specific xbox account THAT MICROSOFT KNOWS! It shouldn't require anything but some button pushing to track them down.

First step, is to change the password on your Microsoft account. Secondly, I’d enable two factor authentication on your account via the microsoft authenticator app. Any accounts you use which are linked to your microsoft email address may also be compromised
as well, you should change your passwords for any accounts linked to that email address, and any accounts which also have the same password.

You should never, ever share your password, specifically for reasons like this, but based on the behaviour you’ve described I would not put messing with your other accounts past this person. None of this will change the fact you need to wait a full 12 months
from the first time you swapped your home xbox to get the ability to do it again, but it you take steps to secure yourself and your online identities, hopefully it won’t get any worse.

Here’s more info on setting up two factor authentication with the Microsoft Authenticator app:
