I am not arguing who outdid whom. It's no secret that the permeated use of cover systems in third person shooters was the byproduct of its implementation in Gears. Epic wasn't the first to did this, but they did it best.

    .

That's fine, neither am I. It's an interesting debate and angle of discussion, however.

    .

'Is it fair to compare the two though? I mean they are vastly different games... Unless I'm misinterpretation what you guys are saying'.

    .

You can compare apples to kittens... you can compare whatever you'd like, though you may not necessarily come out with relevant results ; ) You're not misinterpreting anything, by the way : ) I can kill plenty from cover in Gears myself, not that I enjoy
    Gears' floaty, inaccurate Lancer.

    .

They are quite different games but isolated it's easy to examine the cover mechanics. My main preference is the way that you don't have to toggle out of cover in Vegas and can easily be shot out of cover whether you're firing or not. In Gears I found it
especially frustrating when bullets would clearly go straight through an enemy's back and not register a hit and I find toggling in and out of cover too automated... too simple and not particularly engaging.

    .

I very much enjoy the way that the Vegas games integrated their cover mechanics with the left trigger as well... it worked well and gave you several different, effective ways to engage an enemy.

You know, I've never really thought much about the cover system in Vegas, but that's because of how nice and fluid it was in the game play and how well it worked. Your post really made me think back on it and now I am just thinking it over and really appreciating
how well the cover system was executed in the Vegas games. I don't think it'd be the best cover system for a game in the style of Gears, but I am a big fan of it.

    .

I"d really like to see Ubisoft get their *** together and release a new Rainbow Six that plays a lot like Vegas. I miss playing it with all my buddies, it's probably the most fun I've had this gen in multiplayer along with Halo 3 and Worms.

I really enjoyed it, personally. I must get Vegas 2 back because one of my mates has it and has never played it... great two games.

    .

Haven't heard much about any other Rainbow games coming out but I'm pretty keen.

Patriots? It's been flying pretty low on the radar as of late but it's still on development.

So Black Tusk wasnt even working on a game this whole time? Apparently what they showed at E3 was only a tech demo?..So now what? They start working on Gears and maybe in three years it releases? I thought the demo they showed could be a Crackdown 3 demo.So
    disappointed.

Because it has been cancelled and rebooted multiple times.

    .

I swear, people keep praising Ubisoft lately for the new IP push, but it seems they are running around with their heads cut off.

Last I heard of it, there was a debacle over the unfortunate passing of Tom Clancy last year and the problems that brought in regards to his IP. Ubisoft was quick to fix the problem - it IS one of their cash cows after all.

I'm not sure why was this hyped as much as it was. I do have to note that I am, by no means, a GoW enthusiast (the games were ok - the first one's masterful use of cover still lingers on third person shooters nowadays) but this certainly lays to rest that
Gears could be multi platform, I suppose.

I am a bit disappointed as well. Outside of Judgement (didn't play it and from the sounds of things, that was a good thing) GoW was what defined the 360. I really liked the franchise, but not really sure where else the storyline can go. The world is in
shambles. Humanity is in a severe decline. What else is there? Yeah we can do prequels like the Pendellum wars etc. but I for one am tired of prequels. I want to see what exciting new worlds that devs can come up with!

I love Gears 3. I loved all the gears before that. Then Judgment came out and like Halo 4, I stopped caring about the series.
