Microsoft Account asking for verification code, I don’t know where to get it.

usually verification codes are sent through email or sms. if you can't find it contact support.

I have not tried to change it yet. And yes it does ask for a verification code. Where do I contact Microsoft support at?

I understand that but what I'm asking is how can he recover the account. He doesn't know the password and can't create a new one. He doesn't have the same phone number so he can't recover the account. So what I'm asking is how can he contact Microsoft to fix the issue.

Im assuming he has 2 step verification enabled where it texts him a verification code and asks for what the code was?

If so then when your friend first enabled 2 step verification it would have given them several backup codes (meant for this exact sort of scenario) and told him to save them somewhere safe.

When it asks for the code being texted to him he can enter one of those backup codes instead.

If he didnt save those backup codes then unfortunately he'd be out of luck and the account wont be recoverable. Even support wouldn't be able to assist if he doesn't have those backup codes.

The best option is to change the password of your profile and make sure they do not get it again. Also, it is good to activate the two step verification. This will ask for the password and also for a code that will be sent where you want to log in: a mobile

Do you know the current email and password for the account?

If so you can change the security proof on the account (where they want to send the verification code to) by signing into the account by going to account.live.com/addassocid this will ask to send a verification code if you click on that you do not have access
to where they want to send the verification code it will allow you to change where it is being sent to.

KEEP IN MIND:

Once you start the process to change the security proof it will take 30 days for the change to take affect. The ONLY way to stop that change is to gain access to the old security proof.

You will be locked out of the account for that 30 days but once that change takes affect you would be able to make any changes to the account including the email you use to sign into the account.
