  1. Microphone not working with Xbox Headset connected through jack 3.5mm to the Xbox...

I bought a brand new Xbox Headset with the jack 3.5mm connection, thinking that was possible to plug it into the Xbox Controller paired via bluetooth to my PC.

I found out that to use the Xbox Headset together with the Xbox Controller (connected wireless), I have to buy the Xbox Wireless Adapter that should be able to detect the Xbox Controller and the accessories connected to it.

When I managed to connect the Xbox Controller wireless, using the Xbox Wireless Adapter, I tried to plug into the Controller my Xbox Headset, and the Headset was correctly detected as "Xbox Headset" and "Xbox Headset with Microphone".

The result is that I'm now able to listen through the Xbox Headset, but the microphone doesn't work.

Things I tried to fix the issue:

    • Started Windows Update and updated everything, also the optional updates (one was about the Xbox Wireless Adapter), and restarted the PC
    • Checked the connections and the microphone mute button on the Headset
    • Tried to connect the Headset directly to the PC through the 3.5mm jack and it works both as speaker and as microphone
    • Downloaded the app "Xbox Accessories" and updated the Controller, while the Headset was connected to it
    System information:

    • OS: Windows 11 Home x64 Version 10.0.22621 build 22621
    • Laptop: Acer Nitro AN517-55
    • CPU: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700H, 2700 Mhz, 14 core, 20 logical processors
    • RAM: 16Gb
    • GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060, 12Gb VRAM
    • BIOS: Insyde Corp. V2.09, 06/14/2023

    :)

game chat Tv speakers but separate microphone

I'm Samy an independent advisor. Welcome to the Xbox community. How are you?

If the microphone has a 3.5mm input that will fit into the controller MAYBE it will work. If that doesn't work, I recommend using a headset with a 3.5mm jack connected to the controller.

    headphones without an adapter

    Hello

The newer version of Xbox One controllers have a 3.5mm jack so you can plug in any headset which has a 4 pole 3.5mm connector in order to use that as a headset and microphone.

USB headsets do not work though

    X box one controller

...we have tried different head phones and it still does not work any idea or do i need to send the controller back.
Are the headphones official Xbox headsets with a large connector that looks like an USB plug, or is that a third party headset with a 3.5mm headphone jack and three rings on the connector?

If it is a 3.5mm jack headset, be aware that there are two standards for the 3.5mm jack called OMTP and CTIA. On both standards, the microphone and ground pin are reversed.

So it might be that the controller is listening on the ground pin, while the headset microphone is "talking" to the ground connection on the controller.

If the headset is a OMTP standard headset, you will need a OMTP to CTIA adapter (since the adapter simply crosses two wires, the adapter works also the other way around).

    Thanks

    Headsets

In order for the 3.5mm headset to work you will need a recent controller with 3.5mm jack. Unless it's an original Xbox One controller from 2013, your controller should have such a 3.5mm jack. Just look at the bottom connector of the Xbox controller. If there
is a 3.5 mm plug next to the USB-like connector on the left, you're good to go. Otherwise you'd need the stereo adaptor or a newer controller.

As for the headset: Make sure it's 3.5mm jack is according to the CTIA specification. There are two major standards for 3.5mm headset jacks: OMTP and CTIA. Both standards have the microphone and ground connection reversed. So if you have an OMTP compliant
headset, the microphone will not work without getting a CTIA to OMTP adapter. You can get those adapters online or in cellphone shops. This adapter simply reverses two wires, so they should be dirt cheap. If a shop wants more than the price of a coffee to
go you're being ripped off for that adapter.
