Mic volume too low to hear in party chats

Hello. I've been working on resolving this issue for days now and i'm at a loss for how to fix it.

Problem: when in party chats my microphone is too quiet for others to hear.

Details: The microphone works, and if everything else is silent, people can hear me at a whispering level. This obviously doesn't work for playing over a game. The problem only happens in party chats. If I create a voice message with the same settings my microphone is blaring loud.

Solutions tried:

Unplugging and re-plugging in headset

Updating console

Updating controller

Different headset

Different controller

Turning mic monitoring all the way up

Soft resetting console

Factory resetting console

USB updating console

Changing audio formats in settings

Changing chat mixer settings

Turning off instant-on

Checking NAT type

Assigning controller to my account

Opening/forwarding all the recommended ports

Installing insider builds

Ah forgot to add that one, but I have already as well. I'm also a MSFT employee, and none of the insider rings fixed it.

Yes I have. It goes into the update screen then jumps to 100% and says controller is up to date.

Oh, interesting. Have you tried to perform a controller firmware update, even if you don't have any updates available for the controller?

Have you checked if your friend's settings for your user on the party chat is set correctly? It is very unusual to see the voice messages working correctly, and even in-game chat working, but party chat having an issue. This could be related to the fact that your friends have your volume too low on the party chat.

Hey everyone! I have this issue sorted out, it ended up not being a bug.

For anyone curious, my ISP (Xfinity) manages their modem/router 2in1 via an online portal. I don't use it this way though because their router is garbage. I have the modem set to bridge mode and use my own Google Mesh Wifi router... Turns out the online portal does more than just change settings in the router, so to enable port forwarding I had to disable bridge mode in the modem, go to Xfinity's online portal, set up port forwarding, then re-enable bridge mode, and set up port forwarding AGAIN in my Google Wifi router. That did the trick and now all headsets/controller combos work.
