Mic permanently muted on Xbox One

An icon for a microphone with a line through it suddenly appeared on our Xbox One and now no headsets will work for chatting. We have tried restarting, updating firmware, cleaning the cache, checking privacy settings, but nothing makes a difference. HELP!

if I try to talk to my friends they cant hear me as if my mic is permanently muted when I try to mute or unmute no light shows sometimes my friends can hear me but then it goes again. I looked up this problem to fix it but apparently that if the mic is muted
when the xbox turns off then it brakes. if anyone has a tip to stop this contact me on xbox one .

it depends what headset your using and if your using the adaptor,try pluging the headset into the controller and press the xbox button there should be a audio setting where you can unmute headset (i only suggest this as i have done the same before)

The first things I would check is to make sure your controls on the headset are not set to "Mute" and then also check in the Privacy/Communication settings on Xbox to make sure nothing is disabled.

Thanks for reaching out, we know this could be frustrating but we're going to try our best to get your issue resolved. Can you give us a little more information about your issue? What kind of headset is it that
you're trying to use? The symbol of a muted microphone is the sign that no headset is being detected. If the headset was being detected it would be a little headset symbol in that space. (Is it using an adapter
or plugged into the control)

I recommend while you have the headset plugged in and maybe change the batteries to Update
your Xbox One Controller. Should that have issues it can also be a NAT type issue, so I would recommend to set up ports with your internet provider. Network
ports used by Xbox Live on Xbox One

If the problem persists please make sure the headset is compatible with the Xbox One.

Try performing a hard reset EXACTLY like this. Hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely.
Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes.
Plug the power cord back in and restart the console.

If that doesn't help try with another controller to see if the controller is bad. You can also get an adapter as others have said that resolves the issue. I use the adapter and have never had any issues.
