Mic being really quiet in xbox game bar and when in the "Sound" section of settings

I was on xbox game bar playing with my friend and he said my mic was really quiet even though its where i usually keep the microphone piece (quiet close) and it usually is normal. but my mic only got to normal sounds when the microphone piece was basically
on my mouth. when i went into settings, then to the sound section, the mic was really quiet. i went on to my xbox and plugged my headset in there and the mic noise was normal and the mic was in the place it usually is. What can i do to resolve this?

After reviewing the PC settings and device inputs, what did you find? Also, could you try another program like Skype, please? In fact, Skype will allow you to test back to yourself. It does not sound like an issue with your headset at all, but I imagine
something as unassuming as noise compression or auto-limiting is the culprit.

Thanks for you reply, I went onto Skype and Skype was saying everything is alright and the mic is normal, but when I went into the settings and went to the "Sound" section it was saying it was really quiet. So Skype is saying its normal and settings is saying
its quiet

I've never been able to get Xbox Game Bar to capture my audio when I record - not with my normal mic/Nvidia Broadcast/Voicemod or anything else. If you wanna record clips/gameplay your best bet is to use OBS (it's free). If you don't wanna download OBS then might as well just keep using your normal mic and deal with a little bit of background noise. If you want you can use the Xbox Game Bar feedback section (Settings Cog > Feedback > Xbox Game Bar Feedback) and report it as a bug.

If I go in the Xbox game bar the microphone settings detect my mic and the bar goes up but when I'm in a game or party nobody can hear me

I'm pretty sure that the Xbox Console Companion app is now outdated. You should probably use the new Xbox app.

Is your issue related to using your mic in the actual app or your mic using Game Bar?

Game Bar party chat is much better than the app's built-in party chat and will most definitely pick up your mic.

(You can activate Game Bar by pressing Win + G)

You can also change your default mic in the Settings in the Sound tab.
