Messaging does'nt work

So this Xbox was gave it to me so I can't expect much from it well here is the story, I was trying to text my friend and messaging didn't work.

"Why can't I send messages from my Xbox One or the Xbox app?"

If not, go ahead give it a shot once you do all the steps on the article please

remove and re-add your account.

Side Note: It is very important to make sure you know the primary email/password to the account before removing it from the console.
