Merge Xbox Live account into existing Microsoft account

I'd like to have my Xbox Live account use the same email address as my Outlook.com account.

When I try to set the outlook.com address as an alias for the Xbox account, the system tells me the email address is already taken.

Is there a simple way to resolve this?

its not merging two into a new account, if possible its to add the progress from the account in the disk (without xbox live) into a xbox live account that already exists

Seems the email address that you are trying to register is already in use as a Microsoft account alias and that can't be done.

I want to get rid of my extra email accounts; I don't use the one connected to my Xbox live account for anything else.
