There are two versions of Minecraft for the Xbox One, the bedrock edition and the Xbox One edition, the latter version has been replaced with the former and is no longer updated, the bedrock edition is the current version.

Your son's friends may of invited him to the old version of the game and this might be where the problem arises.

Thanks. Is there a way they can play together? We just purchased the XBox so he could play with friends who have Xbox. We have a playstation with which he can crossplatform play minecraft with these friends, but that's a little bit of a clunky process. Seems
like if he could crossplatform play from a totally different system, they should be able to play together on Xbox. Is it possible? If he is the one to send the invite, would it work?

There is no error code, we simply cannot see each other under the friends tab when we are playing minecraft. I am on PC and they are on swtich, both bedrock editions. They are on my friends list but they are listed as offline even when they are playing

Just to confirm what you wrote:

Your son WAS ABLE to play with THESE SAME friends through his Playstation 4 version of Minecraft?

If so, then those friends certainly have the "new" Bedrock Version of Minecraft.

In that case, check that your son is in fact playing "Minecraft" on the Xbox One (the Minecraft WITHOUT the "Xbox One Version" in the name)

It can also be possible that your son joined the Xbox Insiders Program and is playing a newer Beta version of Minecraft, that his friends don't have.

So when your son and his friends start Minecraft, they should check the Version number of the game shown on the title screen.

My friend just recently bought minecraft on xbox. But it says its has 1.16 instead of 1.14 he cant join us and we cant join him. Why is this? We have the same game. Whats happening? How fo we fix this?

Are you in pc? if you have jave you cant play together, but if you have bedrock ED you can.

Or your friend has to update
