Many blu-rays won't play on my Xbox One X

I've always thought that the Xbox One Blu-ray app has been pretty poor. Ever since my first Xbox One (the launch version), I've had some issues with certain blu-rays not working/loading - even though they work just fine on other players.

I've had that original Xbox One, an Xbox One S and now Xbox One X - all have had Blu-ray problems.

Recently, though, it's like it has got a lot worse. Whereas before it was only one or two blu-rays that wouldn't work, now it seems to be a 50/50 chance of a Blu-ray not working. Certain blu-rays used to work, but now do not - a Blu-ray I bought a couple
of months ago worked, but when I tried to watch it again, about 2 weeks later, it did not.

I put the disc in the console, it sounds like it's loading, but not quite the normal sound, and then after a while just stops.

I've tried several things that haven't improved anything - I just fully reset the console, and the Blu-ray I want to watch still didn't work.

TL;DR - Half of my blu-rays won't play on my Xbox One X, but they work on other players.

No Blu-Ray is a different disc reading to the standard DVD basis. Many companys have the legal right of using it like Sony. But Microsoft isn't one of them so I'm sorry it won't play Blu-Ray DVDs. They require a Blu-Ray Disc Driver.

Thanks for reaching out to the Forums for advice on how to hopefully your discs to work.

I can totally understand how this kind disc reading problem could be confusing.

If the steps did not resolve the issue you're experiencing, I would definitely try a soft factory reset of the console. It's a factory reset that does not remove any games or apps and is a great general troubleshooting step for most issues. Once you have
made sure that your network is working alright and is easy to access, and that you have all the sign in information for your accounts (you'll have to redownload them after this step) follow the steps here How
to reset your console to factory defaults on Xbox Oneand select the option denoted reset and keep my games & apps.
