    Malicious Xbox Controller Firmware?


    So recently one of my xbox controllers came up missing and the one who i know took it is well connected with some people who are experts at coding Malicious software and spyware... i am just asking because one of my chromebooks had some spyware installed
    on it by a custom kernal applied via the Chrome OS crosh shell and i was wondering if a custom firmware update could be applied to the controller to possibly steal data or even form some way to manipulate the console to get information from it, (kinda the
    same way microsoft tech support scammers take ahold of you PC to extract information) I may be kinda paranoid but i hang with some pretty sketchy people in chicago...

    so some clarification would be nice, thx...

    I have never heard of anything like this happening, you need to ask these wuestioons to thehardware manufacturer. The likleyhood that he injected a malicious new firmware in to tou controller, especially one like that i feel is incredibly low, as to even
    uodate it has to be out into a certain mode and it takes time.

    its far morelikely the controller has developed physical shorts, and should probably be replaced. Every Xbox controller is a wired controller with USB, somif thats your issue you have more options than PowerA.

    According to the xbox and plugging them into my pc the firmware is all up to date.

    the slim controller has firmware 3.1.1221.0

    and the older xbox controller has firmware 2.3.2385.0

    I have never heard of malicious script for a controller on Xbox. My best guess is there is a problem with the controller itself. You can try updating the controller. You cannot also check the accessories app on the xbox and see how things are mapped.

If your controller is having Bluetooth-related issues after a firmware update, you can choose to revert your controller to an earlier firmware version to correct the problem.

    On your Xbox console, press the Xbox button to open the guide, and then go to Profile & system > Xbox Support > Get help > Help topics > Hardware & networking > Controllers > My Xbox controller has connection issues after the last update. Select Check your controller’s firmware to open the controller firmware reversion screen in the Xbox Accessories app, and then follow the instructions in the app.

    Note: You can also use this link to revert your controller’s firmware on a Windows device. You will need to have the Xbox Accessories app for Windows installed for the Check your controller’s firmware link to work. If you don’t have the app, get it here: https://aka.ms/xboxaccessoriesupdateapp
